what was your biggest carving? during pregnancy? and did you have a boy or a girl?

I’m pregnant at the moment with twin girls, and I seem to be craving Ice-cream and Ice lollies. If there is anything frozen that is sweet, I have to have it.

With our first a whole mixture of things- at first it was cabbage, then eggs, then cheese biscuits and eventually the worst one of all, McDonald’s. Always savoury though- had a boy.
Second- ice, had a girl.

Milk, I didn’t realised it was a craving at the time coz I like milk anyway, but realised after he was born it was, I was drinking more than a 4 pinter a day.
Oh and I had a boy

First pregnancy nothing at all.I had absolutely no appetite the entire 9 months.I had a girl

With my second I only craved ice.I had another girl.

1st- lemon donuts- boy
2nd- slim jims – boy
3rd- peaches and peach flavored anything – girl

With my daughter I craved a lot of fruit, and with my son I craved a lot of mil and peanut butter.

i craved pickles.and i had a boy.

I craved sour gummies, snickers, and milk. Towards the end i craved spicy food. I had a girl.

chocolate cake and anything with a lot of carbs like pasta bread and cereal! i had a baby girl :)

no cravings in particular. I wanted to eat a lot of fruit though :)

We finally got my son latching in the last 2 days but today he won’t latch. It’s strange because yesterday especially he had it down pat it seemed. I cannot figure out why all of a sudden he refuses to latch. He’s definitely hungry but still won’t latch on or if he does it’s just for a few seconds. I’m confused! Any ideas why he suddenly has "forgot" how to latch on?

Babies forget and have moments when they ‘back slide’ with development, and nursing gets better with practice – he’s only 10 days old so he needs more practice to get it perfect, it’s ok. Try not to get frustrated, you know that he CAN do it because you guys had it working yesterday, so take a deep breath and go through the techniques that worked yesterday.
Step by step. Try re-positioning him. The articles below may be helpful, but if you’re having a hard time then you should call a lactation consultant.

First of all, Im not sure what kind to get. i will be pumping daily so people tell me i need the electric one. i was gonna just buy a hand one and see how it goes but im not sure. I do not want the Medela pump in style. I don’t want to invest that much in a pump. I was just going to get a Playtex or Tommi tippi since those are my two favorite bottles.(from years of baby sitting)But im not sure because the reviews on those two pumps are bad. is there a way i could get another pump but pump into a Playtex or Tommi tippi bottles or storage bags? Does anyone have any pump experience that could give me? I know my mom and grandmother think i ought to do that they did with this kids and squeeze milk into a bowl or cup with my hand then pour it into whatever container i want it in. Lol. I wanna go a notch above that though. xD

If you will be pumping daily, ABSOLUTELY get a good, double electric pump, not a hand pump!I have the Ameda Purely Yours Ultra and I LOVE it; it is slightly less expensive than the Medela, plus it allows you to control the speed and suction a little better.Plus, it came with several size flanges (not all pumps fit all breasts; this allowed me to find a size that wasn’t damaging to my nipples).I bought mine on Amazon, but they are becoming more widely available.

Hand expression works as well – I use breast compressions at the end of a pumping or feeding session to ensure I’ve gotten all the milk out – but are just not efficient if you’ll be doing a lot of pumping.Ditto hand pumps, which are really only good for the occasional pumping session.

It does not matter what sort of bottles you will be using to feed with.I don’t know about the Medela, but my pump came with a set of milk collection bottles, not bottles with nipples. You pump the milk directly into the collection/storage bottles; from there, you can transfer it to a feeding bottle or (if you want) another storage container. Some of the other pump brands have bottles that are compatible with their feeding systems (Avent, Playtex, Tommee Tippee, etc), but as you pointed out, the pumps are not as good.

I only give one bottle a day, as I’m mostly pumping to store up milk for when I go back to work, so I’ve been transferring the milk into Lansinoh storage bags. They were recommended to me by my doula, and they’ve been working really well for me!The bags hold up to 6 oz, but if you’re going to be freezing it at all, I recommend storing it in smaller increments and freezing the bags flat. That way, they thaw out faster and you don’t have to worry about having too much thawed out at a time (since you shouldn’t re-freeze the milk).

Best of luck!

GET THE MEDELA. If you are pumping every day it is definitely always worth investing in a good one, a strong long lasting one. Just as if you are going use a buggy every day you want to get a good steady one that won’t fall apart at the seams or the wheels won’t wear down. The medela is by far the best electric pump, read all of the reviews for yourself if you don’t believe it. Fact is you will get your money’s worth because you’re using it consistently.
You don’t want to be using a hand pump every day, they take a long time and hurt your wrists.

If you are pumping daily then not skimp and get a cheaper pump.It will just not work out in the end. You will likely either wear it out before you are done pumping, or you will see that it does not work well enough.Either way you will end up spending more money.

I pumped several times a day with my first child and I loved the Medela In Style.Never had a problem with it.It worked great. And opposed to formula it does not take that long to make up the price of it.

If you really don’t want to getgood pump– Medela or other good brand then I would suggest you try hand expression, not a manual pump.Manual pumps are too cumbersome and frequently not effective.Hand expression can be a good and quick way to get the milk out if you figure out how to do it.I have done it several times before and once I got the hang of it, I was able to get almost as much out as I did with my Medela.

Medela isn’t the only good electric pump, but it is generally considered the best if on the best. There are a couple others brand that are good, but I was just saying that many of the cheaper pumps are likely not going to work for you.I have never personally heard of good things from the playtex pump.

If you’re going to pump regularly than definitely spend the money on a high-quality, electric pump.
I have a Lansinoh Double Electric breast pump (from Walmart…which also came with an instructional DVD) and I like that I can adjust the pressure and frequency as pumping can be uncomfortable when you’re first starting out. You can also freeze breast milk in the handy storage bags for 6 months.
I know a lot of moms that went with a cheaper pump, and ended up buying a better quality one later because…well….trust the reviews. When you’re exhausted, swollen, sore, and can’t remember the last time you were out, you definitely don’t want to also be uncomfortable while trying to express milk for your baby.
Also, some hospitals offer free help with lactation consultants. I talked with one when I delivered my first and she had amazing advice on pumping!
Also, once the milk is expressed you can put it in any BPA-free bottle, milk storage bag, sippy cup, or mix into baby food. I fed my baby with Dr. Brown’s bottles and Avent, but used a Lansinoh pump – it doesn’t matter.
The most annoying part of pumping is all of the clean up afterwards. Once you’ve finished pumping and you wipe yourself clean, you put the milk in the container of your choice, you then have to wash the pump and if you’re like me, I boiled the parts for 15 minutes after each session and then left them to air dry…it’s time consuming, so you’ll want to develop a routine OR get extra pieces for your pump so you don’t have to wash the same one’s constantly. In the beginning you’ll want to pump every 2 hours for about 15 minutes each session – it’s best to be holding your baby or nurse on one breast and pump on the other to maximize milk "let down". Once your milk is established, you can pump once every 4 hours.

Manual expression is the cheapest, cleanest (if your hands have been washed), and most efficient way to express and store milk. The Lansinoh and Medela manual pumps are also very good if you are only expressing once a day. They are easy to carry with you for use when out.

If you are *exclusively* pumping, start with a double electric hospital grade pump that is rented from the hospital, a pharmacy, or a lactation consultant. Then go to an Ameda, Medela, or Hygeia pump. These, along with the Lansinoh, are the best brands of retail electric double pumps.Lansinoh and Ameda Purely Yours are not as expensive-or as fancy-as Medela, but are highly rated pumps.A good pump will come with a 1 year warranty.

The Tommee Tippee and other pumps manufactured by "bottle" companies are not as well researched or made, and will not have the same warranty as the better pumps.Start with a better pump and you will be happier. You can use whatever bottle you want.

My newborn baby gained 16 % more weight in last 8 days, now he is 16 days old. Can some one please confirm that getting 16% more weight is correct improvement on not?

Thanks!
Ram

Your baby should double his/her birth weight by 3 months old.I really wouldn’t worry about how much s/he is growing per week.Just relax and enjoy your baby. The doctor will tell you if you have anything to worry about. All kids grow at different rates.

I don’t understand your question. Do you mean he is in the 16% percentile? Dont’ dwell on weight gain/loss the first couple of weeks. Babies are supposed to lose some weight the first few days then come back to their birth weight after 1 week or so. It will level out soon.

my son is now 37 weeks old he eats solid foods and 9oz bottles inbetween yet he wakes up 3-4 times during the night wanting a bottle he has a bedtime rutinee tea bath then bed by 7 what can i do to help him sleep more at night??????

is he teething perhaps? one of my twins wasn’t sleeping well in the night until recently. I know it’s hard, but you have to let him cry out (with 20 min intervals). He KNOWS that you are going to take him and feed him …so he has it programmed now. When he wakes up at night, he associates it with feeding. Please know that at 9 months (i have twins who are 9 months) a baby doesn’t have to eat at night..he gets plenty during the day and he is capable of sleeping in the nights — he just needs to learn HOW to sleep. So when he wakes up and starts crying — let him cry for 20 minutes then go pick him up give him a big hug and cuddle for 10 minutes then put him back down and repeat. Do this for a week or so and he will get the hang of it. Of course if he starts crying and hyperventilating then yes pick him up earlier, use your judgment.

Feed him some cereal and a bottle right before bed it will help keep his belly full, you can also try keeping him up a little later.Maybe try an 8:00 bedtime. He may just be growing really fast right now and is not able to go that long without eating.Don’t worry, eventually he will sleep through the night.

I’m not religious and am going to one is it a big thing

This depends on the church. Obviously the parents are doing this and you have been invited so it is a big thing. Will this also be a baptism??

it is for people who want to Baptize their child. If you are invited, you can attend and share the day with the family. nothing will ‘happen’ to you if you attend.

newborn cry in a night and sleep in day. can some one confirm that we need to worry about it or not?

A new born baby??s sleep wake cycles are spread throughout day and night. As the baby grows, she settles down onto a pattern of defined naps and night time sleep.

Babies spend much more time in light sleep. So they can easily awaken in uncomfortable situations like wetness, hunger or discomfort.

During the first year of life, a baby wakes up frequently during the night. This is not a problem, it is a biological fact. So no need to worry at all

The new born has only ONE tool to communicate with the world – crying. It can be done any time- day or night- It can bedue to hunger, thirst, having urinated/… in the bed, or lack of humans around ! So the new mother has to sense the reason, react to it. The only other activity for a new born is sleeping. The more it sleeps, the better for the brain developments. So nothing to worry at all ! . You have to worry, if the baby does NOT weep for a long period !

Try keeping baby awake more during the day, then s/he will sleep more at night. It takes awhile for babies to learn night and day. Before birth, babies tend to sleep during the day, because mom’s moving around rocks them to sleep. They are awake at night before they are born because mom is still. It takes awhile, just try to sleep when baby does.

Absolutely no need to worry. My son is 6 weeks 4 days old. Took him for is 6 week check up on Tuesday and Dr said it is perfectly fine and normal. He said the baby is "upside down" and they usually sort themselves out in a few months.Do remember baby was in the dark for 9 months so he is still adjusting to life on the outside. Give him/her time. In the meantime just enjoy the time you spend with your little one whether night or day.Besides, it is only a matter of convenience for us adults to have baby sleep when we want to.

newborn babies don’t have a sense of day/night. so you have to hang in there until she learns what it is to sleep when it’s dark and wake (with naps) when it’s light. Make sure the room where she/he sleeps is ‘light’ during the day so don’t close the curtains or shutters.

Idk what ur askin ur.not makin sense but if ur askin if a newborn doesnt sleep at nite and in the day time he or she sleeps than its finee I have 9 bros and sis and its fine for a newborn to sleep whenevrr because its a newborn and for he or she to grow it needs lots of sleep..

My 3 week old son is constipated. I just recently switched from Enfamil Soy formula to Similac Advance. Which is about the time he started becoming constipated. He is still pooping once a day but his stools are hard and he cries when he is trying to pass one. Should I wait a few days and see if the constipation works it self out? And is there anything I can do to help ease his stools in the mean time, remember he is just 3 weeks so I dont want to give him all kinds of things. Or should I try alternating his formulas again? And if so any suggestions on which kinds? Thanks.

I used to give my son dark karo syrup (just a tiny bit mixed in his bottles) and that would help him. I had to do this for a long time, until he started solids. I cant remember though how old he was when I started to do that (it was recommended by his pediatrician at the time btw) hes 10 now… I would call his doctor, they should be able to tell you over the phone what can be done. They change the way they feel about whats safe for babies all the time, and some doctors feel differently about different things. Always ask the pediatrician for advise about your baby, thats what they are there for! They will not be upset about you "bugging" them, it is their job! Good luck! Poor baby, hope you find him some relief soon, its awfull : o
*Edit: Do not give a 3 week old baby plain water (ever, unless recomended by the doctor) or water with sugar, no prune juice. (babies at this age should only have stricly formula or breast milk, if they have other things like juice or water, they get full and are not getting the required nutrition they need to gro). You can try thermometor and
vaseline, but this probably wont help unless the baby cant get the poop out. Try a half a teaspoon of dark karo syrup in one bottle. See if that helps, give it at least a day. If not helping, try a half a teaspoon of dark karo syrup in two bottles that day, and keep this up untill you find what works for him. It will make his bowels softer, so start with small amoumts, increasing just slightly the next day if no improvement. You dont want him to get the runs : ) like I said, I did this with my son, but cant remember the age I started with him (but somewhere around one to two months). It really helped. You can buy it at your local grocery store, in the baking section. Remember dark karo syrup, there is a light karo syrup and I distinctly remember the doc telling me to make sure I got the dark karo. Hooe this helps.

I dont know why you changed his formula but this is the reason for his constipation. Talk to your health visitor about this, he will stop feeding if he cant pass anything.
When my daughter was born she was on one form of formula and she pooed out peanuts, at 3 weeks I changed her formula and she was absolutely fine from them on.
The only thing you can give to a baby this young is clear boiled water that has cooled down – in the bottle. Dont put anything up his bottom and do not give him prune juice, he is a baby and relies on you for everything so make sure you know what you are doing.
Best of luck and speak to someone who knows.

He might have a dairy allergy. That was what caused my daughters constipation. I would try breastfeeding as much as possible and supplement if need be. If not try a tiny bit of warmedcoconut oil in the bottle. Don’t worry it is not a major allergy threat coconut allergies are EXTREMELY rare. If you are worried about coconut oil try a bit of acidophilus its a probiotic both of these worked wonders for my baby.

Have you tried bicycling his legs and tummy massages? You could also put him in a warm, relaxing bath.Massage his tummy while bathing him–he’ll probably poop in the bath water.
